Adventure awaits at April’s upcoming Speakers Series: Into Africa. This evening will include stories from Africa, told through three different perspectives.
To start, we will have Don and Marie Gage, who will recount their adventures on the Samburu National Reserve in Kenya. For 17 days, they cohabited alongside cheetahs, giraffes, zebras, and elephants just to name a few in the wilderness of East Africa, and will recall their experiences, challenges, and vibrant memories.
Our next speaker will be Randy Pielsticker, who will delve into his experiences of touring across Africa on bike called the Tour d’Afrique. An annual event beginning in Cairo every January and ending every May in Cape Town, this tour crosses 10 countries over 12,000 km. Randy was the volunteer mechanic and a cyclist in 2004, since then he worked as the Tour Director for 5 other crossings of Africa by bike. His portion of the presentation will focus on the natural beauty of the African continent and its people, the hardships of cycling touring, benefits of sustainable transportation, climbing Kilimanjaro, paddling the Zambezi and much more.
We will conclude the evening with videos from Tammy Rea, who just recently returned to Haliburton after a trip of a lifetime through Africa with her camera by her side. She will be sharing 3 short movies from the trip, including a balloon ride over the Serengeti, adventures at the Devil's Pool at Victoria Falls, and some up close and personal footage of the African wildlife.
This Speakers Series will appeal to anyone with a passion for adventure, different cultures, new environments, and storytelling. Tickets are $10 / per person, with a portion of the proceeds going towards a local conservation organization.
