SUMMARY:Public Wolf Howl
DESCRIPTION:Have you ever heard the magical sound of wolves howling in unison? Every Thursday night in July and August we welcome the public to gather in our Seminar Building. The evening will start with a short presentation about wolves along with a question and answer period. After that\, our staff will silently guide the group on a short walk into the twilight. When we reach just the right spot\, the guide will then howl to our resident wolf pack in attempt to initiate a response. We cannot guarantee the wolves will call back\, regardless we do have a good track-record!\n\nNo advanced registration is required.\n\nCost: There is no fee for this event\, however donations are appreciated.\nImportant Notes:This event does not take place at the Wolf Centre. Please go the Seminar Building at Base Camp. 1095 Redkenn Road\, Haliburton K0M1S0Doors open @ 7:30 pm\, we recommend arriving early if you want a seat. Standing room only once seats fill. DESCRIPTION:Join us for our 34th Annual Poker Run! Participants will ride the trails via snowmobile or ATV visiting 5 checkpoints. Each checkpoint will offer a coloured token and refreshments! Participants turn in their tokens in order to draw a poker hand. One additional hand per participant may be purchased. All proceeds from the event are donated to the Haliburton Firefighters Association. First prize for best poker hand is a brand new snowmobile!\nWhile participating in the poker run\, don’t forget to check out some of our amazing scenic areas such as The Gorge\, Redstone Vista and the Lookout! \n$80 + tax per participant \n1 additional hand can be purchased per person at the same rate. \nEvent Schedule: \nBefore the event: Pre-register and sign your waiver online to make check-in day-of smooth and quick. \n8 am – 2 pm: Register in the Main office and pick up your permit \n9 am – 4 pm: Checkpoints are open \n12 pm – 5 pm: Trade in your tokens for your poker hand at the Seminar Building. Please make sure to be in line no later than 4:30 pm \n5 pm: The winning hand and grand prize winner are announced. \nAll proceeds go to the Haliburton Fire Department. At our last Poker Run Event\, between the efforts of our staff\, our incredible volunteers\, and participants\, we raised $20\,000.00 for our local fire department. At the start of the session\, you will have a chance to view the wolf pack and explore the two galleries. Once you receive all of your required embroidery materials – including an embroidery hoop\, needle\, thread and fabric\, we will work through a set of comprehensive written instructions (which you can refer to throughout the session). After a brief introduction to get you started\, your instructors will be available to provide support and answer any questions during the session. If you do not complete the craft in the allotted timeframe\, you will be able to take home the instructions and materials to finish at your own pace.

Let nature inspire your craft in a welcoming\, low pressure environment perfect for all ages and skill levels. \nCome to the Haliburton Forest Wolf Centre and explore the educational facility with museum-style exhibits\, a cinema\, and one-way glass observatories overlooking the 7 acre enclosure in which our resident wolf pack lives. You’re sure to be inspired by the wolves and the environment they call home. Then have a seat in the main gallery and join fellow crafters in creating your patchwork landscape. This craft is perfect for any age and skill level and can be as simple or complex as you or your child desires. A denim rectangle will act as your canvas\, and colourful fabric scraps will be your paint. After a brief explanation to get you started\, an instructor will be available to provide support and answer any questions throughout the session. \nPlease Note: This program will run from 10:00am – 4:30pm on March 18th\, 2026. You may come at any time during these operating hours\, but we suggest allocating approximately 2 hours to get the full experience. DESCRIPTION:Learn the basics of drawing from life at the Haliburton Forest Wolf Centre. This experience includes free Wolf Centre admission\, instruction on loose\, gestural drawing from live wolves as well as sustained life drawing where we take time to study detail\, structure and anatomy from specimens in the museum. Snacks and beverages will be provided to fuel your sketching. \nCome to the Haliburton Forest Wolf Centre to enjoy a casual evening of drawing. This program gives you a chance to learn the basics of drawing\, with a unique opportunity to draw live wolves from observation. The session will start in our main observation area where you will have a chance to observe and learn about our wolf pack. Then\, we will provide you with drawing materials and give a brief demonstration of basic concepts like shape\, form and line. You will have an opportunity to use those principles in a sketching exercise. The second part of the evening will take place in the main gallery\, where you will do a sustained drawing exercise of a chosen subject or subjects from the Wolf Centre gallery and develop your skills with a focus on structure\, anatomy and finer details all with the feedback and guidance of your instructor. Your instructor is Tamara Holman\, an artist with a Bachelor of Fine Arts\, at OCAD (Ontario College of Art and Design) where she majored in Drawing\, Painting\, and Classical Animation.

DESCRIPTION:Weave your own macrame tapestry at the Haliburton Forest Wolf Centre! This 2-hour program offers casual\, beginner-friendly instruction on techniques that can be used to make your own nature-inspired bookmark or wall hanging. This experience includes Wolf Centre admission\, all materials and instructions required to walk away with a finished macrame piece\, and snacks and beverages to fuel your crafting! \nCome to the Haliburton Forest Wolf Centre to enjoy a casual evening of crafting. This unique crafting program gives you a chance to learn a tapestry-making technique that can be used to make your very own hand-woven art piece using simple materials\, and includes free admission to the Wolf Centre which allows you view our wolf pack throughout the day and get inspired by the forest exhibits.You will be provided all the required materials – which includes the chord and dowels for your piece\, 2 grid-pattern options and graph paper for making your own pattern\, as well as comprehensive written instructions to reference throughout the session (and take home to continue crafting after the workshop). After a brief introduction to get you started\, your instructors will be available to provide support and answer any questions throughout the session so that you can walk away with a finished macrame piece\, and the skills and resources to continue your crafting at home.
