DESCRIPTION:Learn how to hand embroider at the Wolf Centre! This 2 hour craft workshop will include: beginner-friendly instruction by passionate crafters\, all materials to create a nature-inspired embroidered artwork\, Wolf Centre Admission\, and snacks and beverages to fuel your crafting. Make connections with other fun\, nature-loving people and explore your creative side in an encouraging\, low pressure environment. \nCome to the Haliburton Forest Wolf Centre to experience a quiet and casual afternoon of crafting. At the start of the session\, you will have a chance to view the wolf pack and explore the two galleries. Once you receive all of your required embroidery materials – including an embroidery hoop\, needle\, thread and fabric\, we will work through a set of comprehensive written instructions (which you can refer to throughout the session). After a brief introduction to get you started\, your instructors will be available to provide support and answer any questions during the session. If you do not complete the craft in the allotted timeframe\, you will be able to take home the instructions and materials to finish at your own pace.

SUMMARY:Painting with Wolves
DESCRIPTION:Join artist Harvey J Walker at Haliburton Forest for a beginner-level\, step-by-step painting party\, to capture the majestic wolves who call the Wolf Centre home. This class is catered to recreational artists\, so no experience is required! There will be detailed\, step-by-step direction from the instructor. You will be able to observe the real-life wolves in the centre\, but your painting will be based off a provided template to learn. \nArtist Harvey J Walker started painting over thirty years ago and participated in local shows with a group of artists who met regularly at his home. In 2010\, he rediscovered his love of painting and the results showed quickly\, winning the “Peoples Choice Award” at the Agnes Jamieson Gallery in Minden. Since then he’s participated in juried\, solo and group shows as well as the Scugog Studio Tour\, the Tour de Forest in Haliburton\, and the Haliburton Highlands Studio Tour. \nPlease Note: That the image you create will not necessarily reflect the example shown.

Haliburton Forest and Yours Outdoors have partnered with the Royal Canadian Falconry to offer this live animal experience. Hosted at Haliburton Forest Wolf Centre\, this ~2 hr program will start with an introduction and education session about the resident wolf pack. Learn more about these elusive and beautiful predators while viewing them through the one-way glass of the observatory. \nNext meet a variety of aerial predators up close. Learn about the different ways in which different raptor species hunt and pursue their prey. Meet an American Kestrel\, Peregrine hybrid\, Gyrfalcon\, Red-tailed hawk and of course\, the wolves of the sky- the Harris’ hawk. \nThis program is perfect for animal lovers to see and learn about wolves and birds of prey up close. Best suited for ages 12+ as 2 hours can be a long period for young ones to sit/stand and listen for the presentations.

This drop-in craft workshop offers beginner friendly guidance from passionate crafters\, plus all materials to make a take home art piece. Let nature inspire your craft in a welcoming\, low pressure environment perfect for all ages and skill levels. \nCome to the Haliburton Forest Wolf Centre and explore the educational facility with museum-style exhibits\, a cinema\, and one-way glass observatories overlooking the 7 acre enclosure in which our resident wolf pack lives. You’re sure to be inspired by the wolves and the environment they call home. Then have a seat in the main gallery and join fellow crafters in creating your patchwork landscape. This craft is perfect for any age and skill level and can be as simple or complex as you or your child desires. A denim rectangle will act as your canvas\, and colourful fabric scraps will be your paint. After a brief explanation to get you started\, an instructor will be available to provide support and answer any questions throughout the session. \nPlease Note: This program will run from 10:00am – 4:30pm on March 18th\, 2026. You may come at any time during these operating hours\, but we suggest allocating approximately 2 hours to get the full experience. We recommend you arrive by 2:30pm at the latest for ample wolf viewing and crafting time!

DESCRIPTION:Learn the basics of drawing from life at the Haliburton Forest Wolf Centre. This experience includes free Wolf Centre admission\, instruction on loose\, gestural drawing from live wolves as well as sustained life drawing where we take time to study detail\, structure and anatomy from specimens in the museum. Snacks and beverages will be provided to fuel your sketching. \nCome to the Haliburton Forest Wolf Centre to enjoy a casual evening of drawing. This program gives you a chance to learn the basics of drawing\, with a unique opportunity to draw live wolves from observation. The session will start in our main observation area where you will have a chance to observe and learn about our wolf pack. Then\, we will provide you with drawing materials and give a brief demonstration of basic concepts like shape\, form and line. You will have an opportunity to use those principles in a sketching exercise. The second part of the evening will take place in the main gallery\, where you will do a sustained drawing exercise of a chosen subject or subjects from the Wolf Centre gallery and develop your skills with a focus on structure\, anatomy and finer details all with the feedback and guidance of your instructor. Your instructor is Tamara Holman\, an artist with a Bachelor of Fine Arts\, at OCAD (Ontario College of Art and Design) where she majored in Drawing\, Painting\, and Classical Animation.

This unique crafting program gives you a chance to learn a tapestry-making technique that can be used to make your very own hand-woven art piece using simple materials\, and includes free admission to the Wolf Centre which allows you view our wolf pack throughout the day and get inspired by the forest exhibits.You will be provided all the required materials – which includes the chord and dowels for your piece\, 2 grid-pattern options and graph paper for making your own pattern\, as well as comprehensive written instructions to reference throughout the session (and take home to continue crafting after the workshop). After a brief introduction to get you started\, your instructors will be available to provide support and answer any questions throughout the session so that you can walk away with a finished macrame piece\, and the skills and resources to continue your crafting at home.
