This informative foraging workshop with Steve Lukacic will teach you everything you need to know about locating and responsibly harvesting one of our most sought-after local wild foods—wild ramps! (Also commonly referred to as wild leeks.) A true seasonal delicacy, the flavour of this wonderful spring ephemeral is often described as a combination between onions and garlic—although it also contains a note of sweetness and really has its own thing going on!

With the increasing popularity of wild ramps in kitchens across Ontario, it’s more important than ever to practice sustainable harvesting techniques to ensure their continued abundance in the delicate forest ecosystems they inhabit. You’ll not only learn how to minimize your impact on the areas you forage from, but will take a deep dive into their preferred habitat.

After a short introductory talk, Steve will lead you on a foraging hike where you’ll learn about the important role wild ramps play in forest ecology, their cultural significance and much, much more.
